Sometimes saving an elephant requires more than a few people and a rope. Difficult terrain, thick forest, mud, and the animal's condition can turn a rescue into an all-night operation.
In one recent rescue, a severely injured elephant had to be carefully moved from deep forest terrain using specialized equipment. The team faced difficult roads and muddy ground but continued until the elephant reached a rehabilitation center.
The elephant still had a long recovery ahead, but the rescue itself was a victory. Every mile brought him closer to professional care and another chance at life.
